Directive (EU) 2024/1799 covers 10 product categories. The repair obligation lies primarily with the manufacturer. If the manufacturer is not established in the EU, it passes to its authorised representative, then to the importer, and only if there is none, to the distributor.
The European Commission may extend the scope to further products.

What is the Right to Repair Directive?
The Right to Repair Directive (Directive EU 2024/1799) is EU legislation that promotes the repair of goods. The repair obligation lies primarily with the manufacturer; if it is not established in the EU, with its authorised representative, then the importer and, where applicable, the distributor. The main obligations include:
- Repair selected products after the warranty, at a reasonable price
- Inform consumers about the repair obligation and repair services
- Publish indicative prices for typical repairs
- Not impede repair through contractual, hardware or software barriers
